Postmodern Visual Novel
It's hard to talk about this game without spoilers.
The main thing you should know is that it's not your ordinary Visual Novel. It's postmodern take on this kind of games. It's genre deconstruction.
It's what Undertale is for old-school RPGs. Or, for you comics/movie geeks, Watchmen is for super-hero media.
It takes genre tropes and mocks them or shows from the unusual side.
The disadvantage here is that if you know nothing about Visual Novels, you definitely should play a few before trying DDLC. Without that, you wouldn't be able to enjoy it in full and appreciate, what it's doing for the genre.
Also beware of some (OK, not some, **a lot**) disturbing content.

In a way to describe this game without spoilers, I choose a cake that looks apealing on the outside, and is pretty good for the first few bites. As you almost finish the cake it starts tasting wierd. The cake is really bad now and you just finished the cake. You enjoyed the cake and loved it but you are still vomiting to this day.
