Heroes of The Storm (HoTS) is a one-of-a-kind MOBA!

I've been playing this game since beta release, and I have to say, this MOBA is one for the ages.

If you've played MOBAs in the past, you probably are aware of the general structural dynamic of games such as League of Legends, DotA, or Smite. In general, you select a "hero", or character, which has 4 abilities and potentially a talent. These 4 abilities are divided into regular and heroic abilities; 3 being regular and 1 heroic. You are placed into a match with 2 or 4 other players, and play against a team of 3 or 5 enemy players on a map divided into 2 to 3 "lanes" with minions that push constantly toward the enemy base. Additionally, there are jungles with neutral monsters to be killed for money or power-ups. There are generally no map objectives.

Where Heroes takes the cake in the MOBA scene, in my opinion, is their usage of map objectives, 2 heroic choices, extensive use of talents, sticking to lore of Warcraft, Starcraft, Diablo, and Overwatch universes, distinctive roles, and other Blizzard-worthy amazingness.

Instead of dealing with last-hits and gold farming for half the game, experience is utilized and shared throughout your team. You level up 1-30 (generally games end at 20-23) and every few levels you gain a talent choice. All heroes have talents to chose from in each talent "level" and can range from 3 to 5 talent choices, with 2 heroics at level 10.

There are over 10 maps as of now, with many more in the works, with each having a unique objective. For example, one map requires 2 shrines to be active so a powerful dragon boss can be unlocked and a player on the team with both shrines active can control and decimate the enemy forts. Another map requires both teams to claim 3 "curse tributes" to gain a period where all enemy structures are disabled. In yet another map, there are two eternal (light and dark) immortals locked in battle. You must kill the enemy immortal while defending yours to have the immortal fight by your side.

As you can see, Heroes is an exciting new addition to the monotonous MOBA scene. If you haven't given it a try yet, please do! And comment your thoughts for others to see!
